Welcome to

We exist to move beyond labels and focus on ability, equipping neurodivergent young adults with real-world skills, confidence, and support to thrive independently.

Here at The Duncan Centre for Life Skills Development, we offer a practical, unique, hands-on mix of programs and training enterprises designed to upskill and support teens and young adults aged 15 and older, particularly neurodivergent individuals, in building independence, confidence and real-world skills so that they too can write their own success stories.

HOME MANAGEMENT

Our Home Management program equips students with essential everyday living skills needed for independent adulthood. Through practical, hands-on learning, students develop confidence in areas such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, budgeting basics, personal organisation, and maintaining a safe and functional living space. The focus is on building routine, responsibility, and self-sufficiency in a supportive environment where skills are learned by doing.

ARTS AND
CRAFTS

Our Arts & Crafts program encourages creativity while building practical, transferable skills. Students explore a variety of materials and techniques, often working with recycled and donated items to create unique, meaningful pieces such as artwork from old windows or soap from reclaimed oils. These hands-on projects develop fine motor skills, focus, and self-expression, while also teaching resourcefulness, teamwork, and the value of transforming discarded materials into something useful and purposeful.

DIY AND
TRADE

Our DIY & Trade Skills program provides practical, hands-on experience in basic construction, repairs, and workshop-based tasks. Students learn how to safely use tools, follow instructions, and complete small projects such as building, fixing, and assembling everyday items. The focus is on developing problem-solving abilities, spatial awareness, and practical confidence, while introducing foundational skills that support independence and exposure to potential trade-related pathways.

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Our Health & Wellbeing program focuses on supporting students’ physical, emotional, and social development in a balanced and practical way. Through guided activities, sporting and movement-based exercises, students develop coordination, hand-eye and fine motor skills, alongside healthy routines, personal care, emotional regulation, and self-awareness. The programme aims to build resilience, confidence, and a positive sense of self, helping students manage everyday challenges and maintain overall wellbeing in a supportive environment.

SPECIAL
INTERESTS

Our Special Interest Activities program is designed to nurture individual passions, with a strong focus on music as a powerful tool for learning, expression, and connection. Students are encouraged to explore instruments, rhythm, sound, and performance at their own pace, alongside other personal interests. These activities support confidence, communication, focus, and emotional expression, while giving students space to develop identity, creativity, and enjoyment through meaningful, interest-driven experiences.

SOCIAL
FRIDAYS

Our Social Fridays program provides a relaxed, inclusive space for students to connect, build friendships, and develop essential social skills in a natural environment. Through group activities, outings, and shared experiences, students practice communication, teamwork, and social confidence while simply enjoying time together. The focus is on belonging, interaction, and real-world social engagement, helping students strengthen relationships and feel part of a supportive community beyond structured learning.

THE DITSY CAFE TRAINING
COFFEE SHOP

Our Training Coffee Shop program offers students real-world, hands-on experience in a supportive, structured environment. Operated and run by the students themselves, they take ownership of stock control, menu planning, shift coordination, preparation, and customer service, while being guided by a facilitator. This immersive approach builds confidence, responsibility, and teamwork, while reinforcing workplace expectations such as time management, communication, and accountability, providing meaningful exposure to future employment pathways.

THE RETRO METRO
TRAINING
TRIFT STORE

Our Clearing for a Cause program provides students with real-world, hands-on experience through a meaningful, community-driven initiative. Students are actively involved in the collection, sorting, and preparation of donated items, gaining practical skills in organisation, teamwork, and task management. Working alongside a facilitator, they learn responsibility, communication, and the value of service, while contributing to a sustainable cycle where donated goods support skills development and create opportunities, offering both purpose and exposure to real-world work environments.

CLEARING FOR A CAUSE TRAINING PROGRAM

The Clearing for a Cause Training Initiative  is a hands-on, community-based programme where students assist with clearing homes, garages, offices, and other spaces. Items removed are carefully sorted for donation, recycling, upcycling, or redistribution to other deserving non-profits, ensuring they continue to serve a purpose wherever possible.

Only materials that cannot be reused or repurposed are sent to landfill, significantly reducing waste and promoting environmentally responsible disposal practices. Through this process, students gain practical experience in teamwork, logistics, customer interaction, and structured service delivery under supervision.

A small service or transport fee helps sustain the program and cover operational costs, while the initiative itself supports both skills development and environmental responsibility, turning everyday clear-outs into meaningful impact for people, learning, and the planet.

We are currently exploring the introduction of a formal academic component through accredited online institutions too.

However, due to financial considerations, our primary focus remains on delivering meaningful, practical skills development that directly supports independence and real-world readiness.
